Careers Advice and Guidance Overview
Careers Education, Guidance and Employability play an important part in the lives of students at Hagley Catholic High School. The aim of our programme is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to make wise and informed choices regarding their future and develop skills to prepare them for their working life.
CEIAG enables the students to make informed, balanced and appropriate decisions about many key areas of their future development, progression and career pathways. CEIAG at Hagley is completely impartial which enables CEIAG to be delivered in an objective and balanced manner by all staff, so that each student receives exactly the same opportunities to explore potential pathways. It is delivered via the Character and Culture curriculum across the school.
Employability skills and work experience is a major focus in Year 10 and 12; Year 11 and Year 13 have a robust programme in order to ensure that students are well prepared for their next phase of life.
There is a Careers Drop-In area in the Sixth Form Study Centre, which is available to every student. Here students have access to up to date information about their future options via leaflets, books, magazines and university prospectuses in addition to advice from the Sixth Form team.
In addition to this, any advice or guidance given to students is personalised and appropriate. Hagley Catholic High School also believes that working with outside agencies is an invaluable part of the CEIAG curriculum on offer and we work with colleges, training providers, universities and employers to ensure that individual student needs are met.
The school’s Careers Adviser is Mrs Nikki Copitch. She is available for drop-in sessions at break and lunchtimes on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students, parents/carers, employers and other outside agencies can contact our careers advisor via the link below. Students can also message her in Teams.
All students at Hagley Catholic High School will:
- Develop their understanding of their skills, interests and personality from Year 7 - 13, and make links between these and future pathways
- Be provided with information about the range of opportunities open to them
- Have the opportunity to meet with external employers at least once per academic year
- Take part in work related activities in and out of school
- Understand expectations of employers and learn how to apply for jobs
- Learn how to make informed decisions about their future
- Be fully supported and guided through key transition periods
- Learn how to improve their own employability skills
We are very proud of our Business Partnership links with employers. These employers are invited to support students in their learning through work placements, talks, interview preparation, careers fairs and work-related learning events. We have also invested in the Unifrog platform. This provides students with information they need to make important decisions about future careers.
How we measure and assess the impact of the careers programme on pupils
Hagley Catholic High School is an active member of the Worcestershire Careers Hub and supports the development of Worcestershire's Future Workforce through the Worcestershire Enterprise Adviser Network.
The following information is an extract taken from the Department for Education's Careers Strategy.
"The careers strategy sets out that every school and academy providing secondary education should use the Gatsby Charitable Foundation's Benchmarks to develop and improve their careers provision. This statutory guidance has been restructured around the Benchmarks with information on what schools need to do to meet each one. The Gatsby Benchmarks are not a statutory framework but by adopting them,
schools can be confident that they are fulfilling their legal duties: the existing duties to secure independent careers guidance and provide opportunities to a range of providers to inform pupils about technical education qualifications or apprenticeships and the new duty to publish information about the careers programme on the school website."
